I'm with you, running out of steam midway through NaNo.Great idea. I'll have to try that with my WIP. But I don't think I'll be doing NanNo this year.

Neat idea. Interview the characters. Have a chat. See what comes out of their mouths. I'll try this. Thanks

What's interesting to me about your post, and Terry Brooks' book as well, is that they both make me think of exploratory testing. As you say, "Experiencing was better than thinking, in the same way that eating a strawberry is better than thinking about eating a strawberry."

In my writing, I find that outlines help me when I'm writing technical articles, but they hinder me when I'm writing fiction. I'm not sure why. I think it might be word count. If I have 3,000 words, outlines help me figure out what's in scope and out of scope. If I have as much space as I want, I find they constrain me to much and I ignore them. Now I don't bother making them for fiction.

Hi George. Yeah, there are a few puzzles for me to solve. I have a twist in mind for Emile, but I don't yet know his motivations.

If Norm succeeds, Emile doesn't have anyone to pay. If Norm fails, then Emile is in twice the jeopardy that Paulo is in.

I liked the idea. Clustering also seems a good idea for creating scenes, or so I think. Will definitely try.

Great post. I like how you are using the technique for fiction. Now the bad news is I can generate many more ideas for stories that I don't have time to write. Sigh. It is a good life.

I wish I'd discovered this technique myself back when I was in college. It would have saved me years of pointless flailing at my keyboard.

I really liked what you did with "Dinner at Gourlay's", by the way. I'd love to see your story about the murderous gambler.
